Colorado will join other states in health care lawsuits

DENVER (AP) - Colorado is joining at least nine other states in suing to block federal health care legislation.

Republican Attorney General John Suthers said Monday he will join the suit, despite the objections of Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter.

Suthers said the bill's requirement that most Americans buy health insurance or be subject to fines is an unconstitutional expansion of the federal government's powers. He says Congress has the right to control interstate commerce but can't force people to participate in commerce.

Suthers said his decision isn't politically motivated. Republican state lawmakers urged him to join the lawsuit earlier in the day but Suthers said he didn't meet with them to reach his decision.

I agree with John Suthers and feel as he does about the unconstitutionality of the health care bill. I think Gov. Ritter needs to pull his head out of the sand and come down to the level of the every day wage earner.

I agree, the health care bill is definetely unconstitutional, it is unprecidented, never before have americans been forced to do something simply because they exist and are alive.

Joe, unfortunately your statement is completely unsubstantiated.  Americans have been forced to do things by government for years. Did you forget about the draft? What about motorcycle helmet laws?  Yes, they are a safety factor, but those laws are forced on people who don't want them. But aside from that point, there is this... Healthcare costs are astronomical. MILLIONS of people have no healthcare, and others who have it are being denied coverage. You're paying for it anyway, every time someone comes into the hospital who can't pay their bill... did you think the Money Fairy just paid it off?!  It's YOUR tax dollars that pay for it. Wouldn't you like to see your taxes go for something else? This has to stop.  Both Republicans and Democrats have tried to set this up for years. From Truman and Nixon to Kennedy and Clinton, but the time is NOW, and I am proud to see this happen in my life time.

Um..who the heck forced you to ride a motorcycle? You have a CHOICE not to operate that vehicle!  Health care and its costs are being forced down our throats. The IRS can garnish your wages or lien your house if you don't participate! Why should I have to pay for some obese welfare couch potato that keeps having heart attacks?  Or some loose trailer trash chick that gets an abortion every 6 months?  Why is that our burden to pay for?  IT IS NOT CONSTITUTIONAL AND WILL BE REPEALED.  Believe it.  Check your constitution if you need to fact check it.
