The blizzard of 2010 is gone, but the snow isn't.

All along the mid-Atlantic it was a dreamy snow day for many school children and a nightmare for many parents, especially the ones trying to get to work.

Even Uncle Sam was no match for mother nature.

The federal government was closed as crews around the capital coped with the aftermath of the blizzard.

Snow topped two feet in some areas between Virginia and New Jersey.

In Pennsylvania the National Guard was called in to help.

For those who dared the daily commute was often an endurance test.

While highway crews made some headway side streets still were slow going, if traffic was going at all.

Many neighborhoods remain hopelessly buried, with cars trapped under glaciers of hard-packed snow.

Power crews are working around the clock, but some homes will be in the dark for another day or two.

Airports around Washington and Baltimore resumed service, hoping to beat another storm blowing in from the south.

It's poised to dump a few more inches in the blizzard zone.
