The first of the year is the time many take to improve their lives, start new habits and break old ones.  Thousands in Colorado are expected to take a no-tobacco vow as a 2010 resolution.

The Colorado QuitLine is staffed and operating at 1-800-QUIT-NOW. The QuitLine is operated by National Jewish Health under contract to the State Tobacco Education & Prevention Partnership. It offers free telephone and online services to English- and Spanish-speaking Colorado residents. The QuitLine coaches are available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Once a commitment is made to stop smoking free counseling is available over the phone for a period of weeks or even months.  That support may include free nicotine patches, gum or lozenges.

Plenty of help is also available on the internet.  One free online resource is www.MyQuitPath.com. This Web site is Colorado's new cessation portal that educates people about available tobacco quit support and tips to set the stage to quit successfully. It provides quit path options for people who are ready to quit and resources for those getting ready to quit. Users can find the resource that's right for them among seven different sites.  Other resources that can be helpful are www.smokefree.gov, www.lungusa.org and www.trytostop.org. All of these Web sites have different tools that can be useful to those who are quitting tobacco.

I used this program to quit smoking seven years ago -- and I haven't smoked since!  This is a great FREE resource to help kick the habit.  And with a habit this tough to break, I needed all the help I could get...  Good luck!
