The 4 star army general overseeing military operations in the Middle East is in Colorado Springs to honor soldiers and the group The Homefront Cares. A thousand people came to the dinner event at Broadmoor to hear General David Petraeus.

At a media conference before the dinner, the General met several soldiers injured in the war.  He then talked about the importance of groups like The Homefront Cares.

"Nothing means more to our troopers and their families than knowing that those back home value what it is that they're doing out their in harms way, and support them. There are few organizations that support our troopers and their families better than the one that's holding tonight's function," said General Petraeus.

Even though there are many questions surrounding Afghanistan, including whether to send 40,000 more troops there, he said the dinner's not the night to talk about that.

"No not tonight. This is a night to recognize our troopers and frankly as importantly here tonight to recognize those who look after our troopers and their families and that's the focus of my remarks."

He did say the top commanders will meet again next Friday to go over the surge proposal and a decision is expected soon.
