Hot weather heats up business in cool mountains

Business is heating up in Colorado's mountains as the temperatures keep rising at the lower elevations.

The Frisco/Copper Visitor Information Center has been getting in between 30 and 50 people an hour, the kind of numbers not seen since the recession. The center expects to set a record this summer.

John Hendryson with Ski Village Resorts in Breckenridge says summer got off to a slow start, but when temperatures reached 100 degrees elsewhere, "things were gangbusters."

The Mountain Travel Research Program, which tracks mountain resorts nationwide, says July bookings were up 9.9 percent over last year and reservations through December are up 7.5 percent.

Hendryson says he's taking reservations for Christmas and international business is stronger than the last two years.
