The Imperial Casino Hotel in Cripple Creek closed its doors Sunday night. The casino is one of the smaller operations in Cripple Creek, but the hotel has a history dating back to the late 1800s.
Amendment 50, passed last July, was supposed to give Colorado gaming towns a financial boost, but Cripple Creek casino owners have not seen a large increase in business.

This is truly a sad in Americana. Besides, I was always lucky at the Imperial. I hope that didn't cause them to go under.

I was sorry to see the casino close. It was not just a casino. There was also a warm pub where interesting and fun locals gathered. The restaurant, run by Chef Paul, was the best in Cripple Creek, and the hotel unique. New businesses are opening, as the old ones close, but we are losing history. Hopefully the next owner of the Imperial will keep the ambiance when it reopens.
