Rufus, Diesel, and Spright are not typical names for political candidates. Then again, this is not a typical election. In an effort to raise money for The Teller County Regional Animal Shelter, citizens of Teller County are working hard to have their Dogocrat and Republicat elected mayor of Divide. There are 25 candidates running in the election: 21 dogs and 4 cats. Voting started February 1st, but unlike most elections, the slogan in Teller County is "vote early, and vote often." There are forty locations where you can cast your votes in person. All the businesses that have an animal in the election, have a ballot box. There is also a complete list of polling location on the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter website. It you can't make it up to Teller County to vote in person, you can also vote online at
Voting is currently in progress and continues through April 6th. All the money raised during the fundraiser goes to help the animals at the shelter. Sue Heron, Vice President of the Board of Directors at the shelter, says that she hopes to use the money to buy a desperately needed new building.
