Colorado lawmakers have reached the half way point of the 2010 session. Democratic Representative, Buffie McFadyen who is in her eighth year says, "This year has been like no other year that I've been here."
This year there is a lot less talk about bills for new and improved programs, rather lawmakers are debating where to make massive cuts and scrounging to save programs they think are most important.
"We are required to balance the budget and we will do that," says Republican Representative, Bob Gardner.
Around 2-billion dollars is what lawmakers have had to cut to adjust and balance the current state budget which ends in June. Heading into the second half of the session they have to address 1.5-billion in cuts for the 2010/11 budget which starts July 1st.
The cuts have to happen. The debate comes down to party philosophy. Democrats want to lessen the blow with fees and taxes. Republicans want to cut government deeper.
