Pueblo's shelter for battered women and children received an early Christmas present Monday--a check for $35,000.

The YWCA of Pueblo received a $35,000 Daniels Fund grant to support the Family Crisis Shelter. The grant will allow the YWCA to provide crisis intervention and emergency shelter to an estimated 350 women and their children.

Counselors, case managers, and domestic violence advocates provide women and children emergency shelter, crisis intervention,  counseling and education. Advocates are available to accompany victims to court proceedings and make appropriate referrals.

Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television, established the Daniels fund to provide grants and scholarships in Colorado and surrounding states.
