A group of Colorado Springs young people aren't ready to let the city's 4th of July celebration fizzle. The fireworks were cut during budget cuts, so the group want to find sponsors and donors for a bang up show without city funding.
"It's got to happen from the people this year," says Levi Jones who is one of the people trying to save the 4th celebration. "This year we're going to be talking to people, putting out fliers, putting out letters, just talking to businesses, everybody we can get our hands on."
They encouraged after talking to the Mayor and also the Parks Director who gave them some possible contacts. They are also getting a good response after establishing a group on face book called "Fireworks in Memorial Park". Jones says, "Just after we posted our page on there it exploded. Everybody wants to see it happen"
People who want to help but don't have Facebook access can contact the group by e-mail. The addresses are: levijones85@gmail.com or meggieliz2003@yahoo.com

There's absolutely no mention in either this article or the Facebook page about how much money they're trying to raise. That number would be helpful to know.

FIRworks? Really? Can we at least spell the words in the title correctly?

On a lighter note, I did appreciate the irony of the statement, "They are also getting a good response after establishing a group on face book called "Fireworks in Memorial Park". Jones says, "Just after we posted our page on there it exploded."
Now THAT's good, witty journalism--whether intended or not.

How about selling those cute little fuzzy things with the eyes and feet that Wendy's did years ago. I don't remember how much they were back then but it was to help fund the 4th fireworks show and they sold like crazy!
