A large group of Fort Carson soldiers gathered outside the home depot for a first ever, do it yourself, course. The home improvement specialists taught a soldiers only workshop on some building basics that will combine with their army training when they deploy to Afghanistan.
When the soldiers deploy, many will spend time at remote outposts where they have to build structures for shelter and protection. The intent of the workshop is enhancing their army training. Captain Mikel Resnick says, "The end state is that we can build a single room structure that can provide protection from small arms fire and artillery mortar fire."
Home Depot employees typically offer classes to encourage shopping in the store. These class members are heading to Afghanistan and don't have the need for much shopping. Store Manager Greg McLin says, "We just want to make sure that we're taking care of soldiers as they take care of us."
