A rally at the Colorado Springs bus terminal, instead of a beach party is not the typical plan for spring break. It is what a small group of college students chose to do. The students are spending their spring break working their way across the state trying to make a difference in Colorado public policy.
They are part of a student board that generates ideas on Colorado issues. They have decided one of the most "important and urgent" issues facing the state is developing a better transportation plan for the states future. "As a statement personally I ride the bus at least three or four times a day to get from school and work," according to student, Bryan Musante, "It enables me to maintain a great standard of life."
To get more support they are spending six days of their spring break traveling to 12 cities across the state holding rallies and meeting with local leaders. The students are pushing for better transit services and better plans for funding road and bridge repairs.
