Treats for our troops

These girl scouts are working hard, but not for merit badges, for our troops

"We're doing it to be nice to the soldiers and also thanking the soldiers fighting in Iraq for Americans and America's safety and peace," says Jenna Brown, a member of Troop 180.

For another troop member, Alisha Campbell, this is personal. Her uncle is a soldier, serving his country.

"It would make him happy," Campbell says.

"It brings morale to the very highest peak you ever can get," says Sgt. Jeffrey Gill.

Sgt. Gill has received many care packages and each one goes a long way.

"Very exciting to see the girls do this for my fellow soldiers and other troopers throughout the armed forces."

"This is a great opportunity for the girls, this girl scout troop, to realize and to learn what it is about serving others. What it is our soldiers are doing for us." says Debi Moore, owner of Fandies Candy Company and organizer of "Treats for Troops."

Fandies Candy Company has been sending troops candy for four years now through the "Treats for Troops" program. That's years of tasty treats and plenty of smiles.

"We have a wall. I call it my wall of heroes," says Moore. "It's great to hear from them and to just know that it's impacting them and that it is just giving them a little sweet taste of home."

That sweet taste of home is something Moore and the girls will continue to try and provide.

Moore says this isn't just a seasonal effort. If you would like to make a donation, bring it by the store on Royal Gorge Boulevard. As soon as a box gets filled, they ship it out.
