WWII vintage plane crashes in Phoenix

Authorities say a World War II-era plane has crashed at a small airport in suburban Phoenix, prompting an evacuation of parts of the airport.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the single-engine P-51D Mustang crashed into a hangar at Stellar Airpark in Chandler at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday.

Gregor says it's not immediately known if there were any injuries or deaths in the crash. The plane was a two-seater.  He says the circumstances of the crash are unclear, but FAA investigators are on their way to the airport.  Authorities evacuated nearby hangars after at least one hangar caught fire following the crash.

The East Valley Tribune reports that the plane was registered to Hirani Oil Arizona, which appears to be a sales and property management company in Chandler.
